Amethyst

Amethyst is the most highly valued stone in the quartz group.  The name means "not drunken", as amethyst was worn as an amulet against drunkenness.  Crystals are always grown onto a base.  Prisms are usually not well developed, therefore are often found as crystal points (pointy amethyst) with the deepest color.  Our amethyst comes from Brazil.  Areas of Brazil that typically mine amethyst are, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul.

Folklore

 According to the Greek legend, Amethyst was a beautiful nymph whom Dionysos fell in love with; he pursued her and as he was about to catch her, she begged the goddess Artemis to save her. The goddess changed her into a beautiful and cold crystal in Dionysos' arms.  Remorseful, he poured his cup of wine on the top of the stone to give it its beautiful wine color, (which would explain why usually, only the top of amethyst crystals is colored), and decided, in tribute to Amethyst and out of love for her, that the stone would have the power to counter the effects of alcohol and to favor chastity.

Metaphysical

 Amethyst has been called the "Addicts Stone" at times because of its metaphysical property of easing problems with unwanted habits and releasing addictions.  Amethyst enhances mental and emotional stability. It relieves depression and can help conquer unwanted habits and addictions, particularly alcoholism. It is a stone of peace and balance. It also enhances intuition and psychic abilities, and thus is used in many magical workings. It relieves stress and diseases associated with overindulgence such as gout.

Agate

Agates carry a quiet energy that works on the subtle bodies, and are great for achieving stability and balance in many aspects of one’s life. Agates tend to work behind the scenes on the cause, instead of the symptom, of an issue. Agate is believed to improve mental functions and can help where issues of clarity and stability are concerned. Agate is also helpful in overcoming negative emotions by bringing love into the chakras. Although they work very slowly and deliberately, this gentle nature of Agate helps them to have a lasting impact.

Clusters

Clusters of crystals bring a "group" energy to it's surrounding area. They are used to foster protection, cooperation, purification, harmony, friendship, intimacy and to break up negative energy in the environment. Flat clusters are wonderful for "re-charging" a crystal with its own energy. They are utilized in "cleansing" other crystals of negative energy. Simply lay a crystal on top of a cluster for 24-48 hours in order to cleanse and recharge it. Clusters help to keep all life forms energized and clear of heavy or unproductive energy.  Druzy clusters are deposits of small crystals on a different mineral substrate.  Whether spelled druse, druze, or druzy they are all just as beautiful.
