12 Animals of Feng Shui

Animals have their own energy and symbolize different things.  The twelve animals honored in the Chinese zodiac are used to determine one's personality as well as project compatibility between the signs.

There are two versions of the story about how these particular twelve animals of all in the world were honored with a year named after them.  In the first,  Buddha was lying on his deathbed and summoned all the living creatures of the world to visit him before he died.  Only twelve made the effort and the great teacher named a year after each of them.

In the second story, the Jade Emperor announced the great race to determine the swiftest animals in the universe.  The all lined up and made a dash as soon as the Emperor lowered his sepulcher.  Wily Rat told Cat that the Great Race was on another day and when it was all over, the feline had missed the entire event.  To this day, Cat still chases the Rat for tricking him!

The twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac give information about personalities and are used for matchmaking as well predicting one's luck and fortune.  When the dozen images are combined in art and/or worn in jewelry or on clothing, they represent protection and good luck.
